Once upon a time, there was a man. This man was filled with compassion, love, and righteousness. He gave to the poor, healed the sick and injured, and preached to the people. He was loved by many, and even had disciples who followed him everywhere.
One of the man’s disciples betrayed him to the man’s enemies. The man was taken, accused, tried, beaten, mocked, spit on, and flayed. When the man’s enemies still weren’t satisfied the man was put to death, but first he was marched in front of the people, who cursed him and spit on him while he endured more beatings. The man never complained. He died on a cross an an innocent man, having never sinned. His name was Jesus Christ, and through his death and resurrection three days later he defeated both death and sin for us, so that we can be saved and be granted eternal life.
