We are not meant to be baby Christians forever. It may be out of ignorance for some, it may be out of laziness for others, and it just be as simple as a lack of teachers that they can draw and learn from. I don’t know.
What I do know that accepting Jesus as our savior is only the birth. We have to continue to grow in Christ as we walk with Him in order to reach the result He intends for each of us.
Once we are born again spiritually, we are supposed to be pursuing the holiness and righteousness of God. This isn't works based salvation; this is obedience to God. Once we are saved we are called to be different, in the world but not of the world. And being obedient is not the same performing works.
This is why you need to be baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit. This is why you need to read the bible. This is why you need to have a relationship with Jesus. If you try to pursue God's holiness and righteousness on your own you won’t be able to accomplish it because sin dwells within our flesh.
Ask God to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and to be filled with Him. It is only with the Holy Spirit's help that we can acquire the discipline and restraint that we need to fight against our sinful desires.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18 KJV
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
1 Peter 1:13-16 KJV
13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Matthew 6:24 KJV
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Romans 8:12-13 KJV
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
1 Corinthians 10:21-22 KJV
21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. 22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
