You were born as a slave.
You have served a master all your life, but you many not have always known it.
That master is sin.
Sin is rebellion against God. It is (often willful) disobedience to God's commandments.
When Adam and Eve broke God's rule not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they decided to do things in their own will and not in God's will. As a result they became broken and sin entered the world. They were cast out of the Garden of Eden before they could eat of the tree of life and live forever so that they would not remain in a forever fallen and broken state. Because of Adam and Eve's sin, death entered into the world.
Every time you put something else before worshipping Jesus, worship something other than Jesus, are jealous over someone else's possessions, lie, steal, murder (which is as simple as hating someone in your heart), disobey your parents, take the Lord's name in vain (using Jesus' name as a swear word, for example), and commit adultery (which is as simple as looking at someone else with lust), you are committing a sin.

We are born with the natural ability and desire to commit these sins and serve our flesh. It's often referred to sin-nature, or sin-covering.
You are born as a slave to sin, which makes you a slave to obeying the lusts and desires of your own flesh over the desires and commands of God. Scripture tells us that every single person is a sinner.
Romans 3:23 KJV
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Sin creates a fatal problem. But the good news is there is a solution.
Romans 6:23 KJV
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The ancient Israelites, through the law and commandment of God, sacrificed animals to atone for sin through the payment of their blood.
Leviticus 17:11 KJV
11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: FOR IT IS THE BLOOD THAT MAKETH AN ATONEMENT FOR THE SOUL. (𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘴.)
However, the blood of animals couldn't forever atone for sin, thus the sacrifices were continual.
God gave us a better and perfect substitute for animal sacrifices through His Son.
Jesus Christ gave up the true riches of glory and heaven and became poor so that we may become rich in God. He descended from heaven, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born to a virgin, and lived as one of us until he was about 33 years old. He was the only person who never committed a sin, but lived a fully perfect and righteous life, fulfilling God's law perfectly, which no one else could do. He was tempted, hated, persecuted, mocked, betrayed, arrested, falsely accused, beaten, and crucified. With His scourging and crucifixion He paid the perfect forever atoning price for sin with His blood and His life. God laid all of the sin of the world on Jesus while He was hanging on the cross. He bore God's wrath for us and paid the price for our sin debt that we could never pay.
With His perfect life and crucifixion, Jesus forever defeated sin. He gave us a way to be freed from the cruel master of sin that we are all born serving so that we may be free to obey God's commandments. With His resurrection on the third day, Jesus also forever defeated death.
Whoever believes and confesses that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and resurrected on the third day, repents (turns away from) of their sin, asks Him to forgive them of their sins, and asks Jesus to be their Savior will be freed from the bondage of sin and given the free gifts of salvation and eternal life. Jesus then becomes their Lord and Master, not sin.
It is only through Jesus that we can finally become truly free, reconciled to God and resume the relationship, peace, and standing with God that we were always intended to have when He created us.
Without Jesus, we truly die, separated from God. But with Jesus, we become conquerors and we get to share in His victory over sin and death.
Romans 8:37 KJV
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
Hallelujah!
