The Greatest Commandments

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 KJV

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

When asked, Jesus said this is the greatest commandment of all in the book of Mark.

Mark 12:28-30 KJV

28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

Jesus continued with the second greatest commandment:

Mark 12:31 KJV

31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

If we truly put God first in our hearts and treat others as we want to be treated, we will be loving them and fulfilling God's commandments. We won't be worshipping other gods above the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. We won't be lying. We won't be committing adultery. We won't be stealing. We won't be taking the Lord's name in vain. We will be honoring our parents. We will not be committing murder (and by the way, hating someone is the equivalent of murdering them in our hearts - 1 John 3:15), and we won't be jealous of others and their possessions.

Matthew 7:12 KJV

12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
