Let Jesus Be Your Friend

Jesus desires to be your closest friend. Is He your closest friend?

There are people out there who are afraid to seek Jesus personally, and to speak with Him as a friend.

There are several thing in scripture that indicate however, that Jesus truly does want a personal relationship with us.

𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙬 7:21-23

21 “𝙉𝙤𝙩 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙨𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙈𝙚, ‘𝙇𝙤𝙧𝙙, 𝙇𝙤𝙧𝙙,’ 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙙𝙤𝙢 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙣, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙈𝙮 𝙁𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧. 22 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙨𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙈𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙖𝙮, ‘𝙇𝙤𝙧𝙙, 𝙇𝙤𝙧𝙙, 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙬𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙢𝙞𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙡𝙚𝙨?’ 23 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢, ‘𝙄 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙮𝙤𝙪; 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙈𝙚, 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙥𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙡𝙖𝙬𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨.’

𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙬 25:1-13

1 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙙𝙤𝙢 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙨, 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢. 2 𝙁𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙝, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩. 3 𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙨, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙧𝙖 𝙤𝙞𝙡 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢; 4 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙤𝙞𝙡 𝙞𝙣 𝙛𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙠𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙨. 5 𝙉𝙤𝙬 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙙𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙨𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙡𝙚𝙚𝙥. 6 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙖𝙩 𝙢𝙞𝙙𝙣𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩: ‘𝘽𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢! 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙝𝙞𝙢.’ 7 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙨 𝙜𝙤𝙩 𝙪𝙥 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙨. 8 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙨 𝙨𝙖𝙞𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨, ‘𝙂𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙪𝙨 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙤𝙞𝙡, 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙜𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙪𝙩.’ 9 𝙃𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙, ‘𝙉𝙤, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙪𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙤𝙤; 𝙜𝙤 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙪𝙮 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙫𝙚𝙨.’ 10 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙪𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙞𝙡, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢 𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙮 𝙬𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙝𝙞𝙢 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙩; 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙨𝙝𝙪𝙩. 11 𝙔𝙚𝙩 𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙨𝙤 𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙚, 𝙨𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜, ‘𝙇𝙤𝙧𝙙, 𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙙, 𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙣 𝙪𝙥 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙪𝙨.’ 12 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙, ‘𝙏𝙧𝙪𝙡𝙮 𝙄 𝙨𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪, 𝙄 𝙙𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙮𝙤𝙪.’ 13 𝘽𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣, 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙣𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙧.

Notice how in these two passages Jesus says “I don’t know you?” I believe in the context of these verses that know means intimacy and closeness.

In Luke 24, 2 of Jesus’ disciples were walking to Emmaus and they were understandably grieving, and talking about what had happened, and Jesus came up to them and asks them what they’re talking about, yet they didn’t know yet that it was Him. He wanted to hear what was troubling them in their hearts. And after they did tell Him, He then taught them all the scriptures that talked of His coming as a servant, and His crucifixion and resurrection. He had already paid the price for our sins and had the ability to just suddenly appear in rooms out of nowhere, and to disappear just as suddenly.

𝙅𝙤𝙝𝙣 15:14-15 𝙉𝘼𝙎𝘽

14 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙈𝙮 𝙛𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙤 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪. 15 𝙉𝙤 𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙤 𝙄 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙨, 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙨 𝙙𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜; 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙄 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙨, 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙈𝙮 𝙁𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙄 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙙𝙚 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪.

He calls us friends if we do what He has commanded us. Not slaves or servants although that is also what we are. But also friends.

𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙬 12:49-50 𝙉𝘼𝙎𝘽

49 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙨, 𝙃𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙞𝙙, “𝘽𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙: 𝙈𝙮 𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙮 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨! 50 𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙬𝙝𝙤𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙈𝙮 𝙁𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙣, 𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙈𝙮 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧.”

We’re also his family, siblings. There are other passages that I could go find but I think this should demonstrate the point.

Of course we reverence and worship Lord Jesus, but I don’t think based on these scriptures above that He desires a rigid, fearful, and formal relationship with us at all. I think He really does want us to also think of Him as a friend. To truly love Him and to be fully open and transparent with Him so that He can fully heal us, comfort us, strengthen us, give us peace, and help us.

Oh and Let’s not forget the garden of Eden! God’s original plan was to live and dwell with us. And Revelation tells us that it will happen after heaven and earth pass away and a new heaven and earth are created. 😀🙌

15 𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙬𝙚 𝙙𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙖 𝙝𝙞𝙜𝙝 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙨𝙮𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙯𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙊𝙣𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙨 𝙬𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚, 𝙮𝙚𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙨𝙞𝙣. 16 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙡𝙚𝙩’𝙨 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙨𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙮 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙.

So let go. Let Jesus past the walls in your heart. Make nothing off limits to Him. He wants to hear what's in your heart. Give Him everything. Surrender! You won't regret it.
