1 Peter 5:8 NASB
8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
What we watch is so incredibly powerful. It is subtle, suggestive, and dangerous in ways we don't realize or understand.
Let's take, for example, the movie "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby."
I used to laugh hysterically at this movie.
Not long into the film, there's a scene where the family is called to dinner. Ricky Bobby is praying to baby Jesus (because that's the version he likes the best), and there are a lot of interjections in the conversation. His wife says at one point "I want you to nail this grace so that we can win (the car race) tomorrow." And Ricky Bobby ends the prayer by mentioning he signed a contract with PowerAde stipulating he had to mention them in every prayer. After the prayer, there's a few bits of conversation that goes around the table about how people picture Jesus in situations, like at a Lynard Skynard concert.
Why is this dangerous? It gives the idea, under the guise of comedy, like it's no big deal, that it's ok to create your own version of Jesus to suit your style.
But if you're following any other Jesus of your own making instead of the holy, biblical, Son of God Jesus of the bible, then you are not truly following His way; instead you are following your own way. And your own way leads to hell, while His way leads to life.
I'm not telling you what to watch, what to listen to, what games to play, what to read, etc. I am telling you to be careful, alert, discerning, and aware of how this world tries to lead you astray from the narrow path. Test everything against scripture and test all spirits.
The only entrance to heaven is through Jesus Christ alone.
God bless you.
John 14:6 NASB
6 Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.
Romans 10:9-10 NASB
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
John 3:16-21 NASB
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. 18 The one who believes in Him is not judged; the one who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the Light; for their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, so that his deeds will not be exposed. 21 But the one who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds will be revealed as having been performed in God.
